Hello there,
I had some nasty random CPU spiking in my normally 50% loaded Logic projects for around 6 months or longer. I usually use many num4 sequencers as MIdiFX on my synthtracks. Only a mononote seq each instance, nothing more. It became a showstopper, the spikes were at 100% at multiple cores randomly on my Intel Xeon CPUs, very short, but enough to stop logic with an overload message. I have been num4 since num3 and it never was this bad as when I switched to OSX monterey. It seems that NUM4 is requesting some midi sync info that interrupts some critical processes under the hood in Logic. No spiking when DAW is stopped, only when it is playing.
Now I have installed Toneworks Catalyst (also a midifx midiseq) and now it became clear it was the num4 plugin causing this spiking. I was going mad the last few months, disabled my ilok dongles, external screens, doing USB devices hussle, looking for the cause of the spiking of my powerful MacPro that became a random showstopper.
There haven't been much updates on the NUM4 except for some OS compatibility issues, but it has come sadly to a point I cannot use it anymore. A big letdown, because it was my favourite midisequencer with its great options for randomizing, editing and auto generating permutations.
I am not expecting any big overhaul of the GUI (one of my longer annoyances, it looks too small and dated now) and frankly anything on the NUM4 front, but I will leave this here, if someone else has CPU spikes on OSX monterey.
Cheers and take care.
