  • setting end step

Hi, I am pretty new to Numerology and I run into a question for which I did not find an answer yet: how do I set the "end step" to a value higher than 16?
When I load the mono note step sequencer, I see a grid with 16 steps. But I want the sequence to be 32 steps long for instance. Where do I do that? I am using the AU version of the plugin in Ableton Live 9. (I looked into the standalone version as well, but could not find it there either)

    Any help much appreciated!

Just click on the arrow at the bottom left corner of any sequencer.

Hi - It's twisty arrow at the bottom of the sequencer - Use the SeqSize dropdown button and select up to 128 steps or use the Len X2.

Maybe I might ask one more thing?

Is it possible to exclude steps from the random/probability features? Or the other way around, set defined steps to randomness/probability?
Many times I would like to have only certain steps to change pitch, or gate value etc.

I'm not completely sure if you're referring to Generate/Evolve or the RandJump/Probability features, so I'll answer for both:

Generate/Evolve : there's no way yet to exclude steps from these algorithms, other than using a separate sequencer, so I'll make a proposal: How about: If any steps are selected, only those steps are allowed to change.

Also, btw: using pairs of DrumSeqs, one set to generate or evolve, and the other set to be 'normal' can be lots of fun: use Kick & Snare on one, hats, etc. on the other…

For RandJump / Probability, those are set per step in the sequencer. RandJmp is the chance of jumping to some other randomly-chosen step, Probability is the chance that a step will 'sound' or not.

            Cheers,
            Jim

              Hi Jim,

Thanks for the informative reply. I am sorry if I was not clear.
My main question is about pitch randomness for a step.

So, when I have for instance a 16 steps sequence running, I would like to have, say, steps 1, and 13 always the same, where in-between steps that play may vary in pitch (and within a pre-defined scale). That way you could keep the root key for those important steps. (I make melodic and structured songs, where chord progression is important, so sequences may, no, must, have randomness in it, to keep things interesting, but I would also like to have control over steps that are important for that chord progression.

I first thought that probability was the one I was looking for, but indeed it stears on/off rather than pitch which is a good feature to of course!
So a function to achieve the above, one way or the other, would be *much* appreciated. Your proposal sounds like a way, right?

After I press "Submit Reply" in a few seconds I am going to buy N4. The demo period is almost done and has been very rewarding, and it is clear that this software is going to bring me lots and lots of fun stearing my (mostly) hardware synths!

              Thanks, Boele

Ah, I see. So yes, having the 'selected step' thing would help -- along with perhaps a bit more choice of random generators.

Meanwhile, though, you can do that with a pair of MonoNotes (or any other NoteSeqs) and a sequenced MIDI Switch -- project attached!
